I had a customer inquiry about noise today and I think its a trend with new car owners.

Many aftermarket products are made for general consumption. Although they may look similar to racing parts, they are not performance focused, instead they are made for people who want to make their car go low, and don’t care to be bothered about any other considerations. To further confuse the issue these watered down performance parts companies offer cash to pro teams to make people believe there is some direct connection to the teams race results and the low level street car parts utilizing for example rubber mounts that most companies sell on coilovers.

By contrast, Parts Shop MAX develops tests and sells parts that were made using the knowledge of what professional teams in Formula Drift need to most precisely connect the driver to the track, and we share these exact same race proven parts that are used in pro drifting with the public. Because we sell such high level parts, we don’t advertise to the general public, most of our sales are based solely upon experienced enthusiast customer research and or recommendations from existing clients.

We have never designed any component, feature, or assembly to reduce noise, in fact everything about what we do increases, creates and transmits noise, vibration and harshness. In our damper there is a compression and rebound valving steel shim stack that opens and closes with the frequency of the bumps on the road, that shim stack contacts a steel piston thats solid mounted to the damper shaft which is mounted to the car using a spherical bearing solid joint.

Parts make noise all the time due to being loose, or improperly adjusted, and those noises should be checked regularly however due to the nature of these high performance parts themselves, they should never be expected to be quiet, and the fact that they are loud even when everything has been installed and adjusted properly should never be considered a manufacturers defect.

That being said, there exists contrasting phenomenons in the reaction to noisy parts, There is a hyper-sensitivity to noise that is unique only to new car owners like Genesis and FRS/BRZ owners. We get many inquiries about noise from this small subset of customers regularly. However when using the exact same solid mount design on older cars, we never hear any complaints, in fact the older cars rubber bushings can be so destroyed that installation of a new solid aftermarket part actually reduces noise unintentionally.

Im happy to inspect any parts free of charge to make sure all settings and components are up to spec and I'm sure we can remedy any manufacturer or installation defect outside of the noise thats typical for racing parts. (we often discover loose collars or an improperly preloaded spring)
