Drifting and transmission blow are two things that you can't separate. While drifting is becoming more of a track sport, (where you can go faster and have higher power) drifters are expecting to out drive the capacity of the stock transmission. Some people never blow out there tranny, and other people can brake a brand new upgraded tranny in mater of weeks. It could be either the way you drive, lack of maintenance, or simply the power out weighing the capacity of the transmission. So we should talk about some of the key points about transmissions and its maintenance.
Maintenance on the transmission is quit simple. change the oil and make sure that all seals are keeping the oil inside. (S15) D1 Streetlegal driver Nakamura, says to put 3 litters of 75w-140 shock proof gear oil thru the shifter. This keeps the transmissions oil level high and well lubricated at all times. when you over fill the transmission, there is a chance that some of the fluid spills out from the breather hole, just wipe it off and clean it. Or you can make a catch tank by extending the breather house and put a can at the end of it. Another thing that he says is to choose the right clutch for your set up. He uses Nismo Super copper mix since it is easier for the tranny, which can still handle 430HP, and Neovas. Some people might like unsprung super solid clutches, but if you drift and have to use the clutch a lot, choose one with springs and your tranny sghould last a lot longer. Last advice is to change the pivot bolt, throwout bearing, and pilot bearing next time you change your clutch. Nissmo trengthen pivot=$30 this part can brake while you drifting so might as well upgrade while the tranny is out. Putting new pilot bering is important because it keeps the tranny shaft in the right place from vibration.(they usually wear out before your clutch disc wears out)
i like the idea of extendin the breather. i want to extend mine into the engine bay lol
also, you need to find a way to completely seal the area around the shifter, because i think thats where the majority of the fluid comes out. a new boot should do this.
