Hello. My name is Cody, and I'm a novice at best, and am just trying to get A picture of my car on here, and add to the community. Not so quick backstory: I became interested in driving when I was able to oversteer in a go-kart. Every time I did it right I found the biggest smile on my face, and would even hear myself make chuckling noises towards the end trying to really hang it out. When I got out of the kart, I was suddenly hit with a brilliant new notion," if this is more fun then I've had in such a long time...just think how GREAT it would be to be able to do this in a CAR!!! "
I looked into platforms and what not, and found a 90 240sx hatch with a "damaged" motor.
The body was OK, and was exactly what I was looking for. I paid $500 and towed it home. I swapped in a dohc motor from a 91 junkyard car, and drove this way for a year or so before realizing the rear side members or rear of the frame was literally rusted through. I parked the 90 and found a 93.
Long story short, I paid way way too much money for a rebuilt title 93 hatch. Regardless, I decided to make the best of it, and in it's defense, it has been very good to me overall and gotten me through auto-x events and an instructional weekend. Presently the 90 sits and the 93 is still in the beginning stages and slowly coming together. My goal thus far was to have a close to stock car, and try to learn/figure out as much as I can about driving. Along the way I wound up going through auto tech courses and have worked as a mechanic for the past two years or so. Funny how as I gained more responsibility at work, the less time and effort I wanted to put in working on my own car...not too cool. I'm the kind of person that really HAS to do my own work...I can't really afford to pay someone else to do something I can do at this point. I know I've saved thousands in labor already...
Regardless, nothing crazy done to the car. Worked on getting the motor back to stock condition through replacing all major sensors (after testing/not aimlessly) Replaced the timing components (wish I'd replaced the oil pump while I was at it, but ah well, hindsight...) The fuel sender shorted out and got replaced with a new factory unit. Came with S14 seats, a injen short ram, and a z32 vlsd. Also now has a short shifter, tension rods, one piece steel driveshaft, PBM subframe collars, ebrake button, KYB GR2 and German Springs. Bought some used tein he's off a friend but they don't clear my wheels.
Man I am just a ramblin and tireds. so I'll call it an evening.
I thought I'd post a picture from last weeks' blizz-action.
Black 240 is stock height and the blue is just lower. I guess it's not too crazy, and I'm sure there are much worst, but I thought I'd share what happened here.
Yeah, my step dad started and I came out with no snowplow just shoveling cubes out one at a time when a neighbor I've never met offered his snowthrower. Super legit! I'm gonna help his son with some drum related know how, but I was a lil touched. Wouldve taken forever. Lets hear it for nice neighbors!
I'm going to go ahead and update my thread here. Nothing too exciting, and it's all been very slow moving. I'm no longer working as a mechanic, and have damaged my driver hatch.
To make a long story short I first messed up the passenger side leaving a gas station by turning in to a planter. I will say, it was completely my fault. This accident led me to bring the car to a trusted body specialist for a quote/opinion. He could tell the car was salvage title by a seam the scratch exposed by the ledge. He suggested I find another car when I told him what shells can go for. I started to save a bit of money for a new shell.
Then, while out messing around with a couple other drivers in a parking lot, I understeered into a curb, ruining a steel wheel, and shifting the front passenger side/frame back, leaving a dimple at the pinch weld. I have since gotten an alignment and toe and camber are within spec, caster is way out on the passenger side, but I'm currently driving it through another winter. yay.
On the upside, I found a coupe shell for low $ and got some progress in before it started getting very dark and rather cold earlier and earlier. I'd like to build it for summer only, as I have plans for another car next winter. And ideally I'd like it track prepped for mdu or whatever local events I can attend come spring/summer.
Please comment and talk trash or suggest things. I'm curious
